Simple Starter Tips
Okay, here’s the thing. All this talk about free energy magnet, home power generation, free energy, whatever. The first thing you should do is follow some simple steps to cut down your energy consumption. Every little bit helps save you money. I was recently talking to my aunt, who said that unplugging certain devices at night saved her $30 a month on her electric bill. My bill is only about $35 a month. So I think I’m already less wasteful than her. So here’s some of the things I do and you should too.
1. Turn off the lights when you’re not in the room. It always shocks me when people don’t do so simple a thing, but it does happen! Get serious about it. Your house should be dark (or naturally lit) in all places except where you need the light. No free energy needed.
2. Shut down your computer between uses. I know that some of the “energy save” modes are pretty awesome nowadays, but it still doesn’t compare to shutting down for the six to eight hours or more between uses. Also, remember to turn off your monitor and computer speakers, if they have separate power buttons. No free energy magnetic motor needed.
3. Unplug power adapters and non-memory devices when not in use. By this, I mean laptop power cords when the computer is off, cell phone chargers, stereos, televisions…all these things still use power when plugged in, even if the phone isn’t connected! By non-memory devices, I mean this: my TV loses it’s programming if unplugged for too long. I like using the pre-programmed channel buttons on my remote, plus visual settings, etc. So I don’t unplug my TV, but I do unplug my Macbook power brick, my Xbox, and my cell phone charger whenever I can. No free energy generator needed.
4. Get LED light bulbs. Yes, they are expensive but they use hardly any electricity. CFL’s have proven to be quite toxic in multiple ways, and I don’t recommend using them, though they will save you energy over traditional bulbs. No free energy magnet needed.
